Our Philosophy

The Northwind Way

Every decision we make — from farm selection to bag design — traces back to these three commitments.

Direct Trade

We travel to origin — Ethiopia, Guatemala, Indonesia — and pay above Fair Trade rates directly to the farmers who grow our beans.

Small-Batch Roasting

Every roast is hand-profiled in our SE Portland facility. We never batch more than we can sell fresh in two weeks.

Craft in Every Cup

From varietal selection to extraction guides in every bag, we give you everything you need to taste what we tasted at origin.

Fresh Every Month

Never Run Out of
Good Coffee

Choose your roast preference and cadence. We roast your beans fresh, ship within 48 hours, and include origin notes from Jamie with every delivery.

Cancel or pause anytime. No commitment, no fuss.

Our Story

Born from a simple conviction

Great coffee deserves great attention. Jamie Holloway founded Northwind after spending three years visiting farms across Ethiopia, Guatemala, and Indonesia — and realizing the story behind every bean was just as remarkable as the cup it produced.

Today, our two Portland cafés are gathering places for morning rituals and slow Saturday conversations. Our online subscriptions bring that same intentionality to your kitchen. This is not mass production. This is craft.
